How To Use AI To Streamline Your Job Search
Using AI for your job search.
Is it just me, or are more job descriptions demanding cover letters and more out of us? I know this can be annoying and feel like a pain, especially as someone who used to be anti-cover letters. I have a solution that’s going to save you time when it comes to your job search, specifically when it comes to cover letters and interviewing.
Everyone loves ChatGPT, but have you heard of Bard AI? If not, let me put you on. Bard AI is just like ChatGPT, but the data sourced is more accurate as it is Google’s AI software. However, please do keep in mind that AI can make mistakes sometimes, so always fact-check. Below are three prompts I’ve been using during my job search that have allowed me to save time and streamline my process.
Prompts To Create Cover Letters
Prompt #1: “Come up with a cover letter for someone with (previous title + experience; for me, it’s program management experience) who’s also a (list out relevant extra roles you have: founder, producer, content creator, etc.) based on this job description (copy and paste the job description here)” See the example below:
Response From Bard AI:
After receiving the response, copy and paste it onto Google Docs or Word; whichever your preferred tool is and from there, make any necessary edits.
Prompt #2: “Write a cover letter for this job description: (insert job description)”
Response From Bard AI:
For this example, it was a simple prompt. However, you will see that when receiving the response, there is an opportunity to fill in any extra details based on your work experience. That’s it; you’ve secured a well-written cover letter in less than 20 minutes.
Now moving on, let’s say you land an interview and you want to be able to speak about your experience and what they’re looking for. You would use the following prompt. I can attest that this has helped me during job interviews and allows me to not talk in circles.
Prompt To Figure Out the Main Job Duties
“Summarize main job tasks for this role based on this job description: (copy and paste the job description here).” See the example below:
The Response from Bard AI
From the response, you will be able to take out bits and pieces and mention it during your job interview. For example, “I see one of the main job tasks is updating student information in database systems. This is something I’ve done at previous companies specifically using Salesforce (or other database management tool).” This will allow the recruiter to know you did your research and allow you to speak more confidently about your skills. What did Lauryn Hill say? "It could all be so simple.”
I hope these tips help you streamline and save time on your job search. Best of luck!
